Vienna is not only Austria’s centre of research and development, but also well placed on a European scale. 31 percent of national spending is tied to the city versus a 22 percent population share. Moreover, the Austrian capital holds 4th place among all EU regions with regard to the share of R&D personnel. Population Projection
According to Vienna's current small-scale projection 2023, the total population of Vienna will increase by 310,000 people (+15.6 percent) during the period 2023 to 2053. The number of residents in the city will amount to 2,292,000 in 2053.
