Procedure
MA 65 is legally required to verify all information thoroughly. In a parallel process, the mode of payment for the parking fee is decided (individual parking vouchers or flat-rate fee).
Documents required
- A detailed statement explaining the need for an exemption permit pursuant to Art. 45(2) Austrian Federal Road Traffic Act (StVO 1960)
- Vehicle licence, including written permission from the vehicle's owner to use it, if applicable
- Working time records kept by the employer over a period of 6 weeks prior to the application including information on the individual days and times when the vehicle needs to be parked for longer than the permitted maximum parking time of 2 hours in an area-wide short-term parking zone
- Confirmation from your employer regarding your place of work and the opening hours of the business
Fees
You have to pay several fees for the parking permit:
- Federal fee:
- EUR 14.30 for the application (Fees Act/Gebührengesetz (German))
- Administrative fee:
- EUR 35.70 if you submit the application in person at the (MA 65) offices or by e-mail or post (Administration and commissioning fees (German))
- Parking fee:
You have to pay the parking fee for each month for which you apply for a parking permit. You have to pay at least 4 months. You can pay for a maximum of 2 years. Calendar months that are only used partially are counted as full months.
Parking fees:
EUR 60 for 1 year and EUR 120 for 2 years
Tip:
You can submit your application and all attachments with the online form and ID Austria (a further development of the mobile phone signature). In this case, you pay lower fees:
- Federal fee: 8.60 Euro instead of 14.30 Euro (Fees Act/Gebührengesetz (German))
- Administrative fee: 30.70 Euro instead of 35.70 Euro (Administration and commissioning fees (German))
Should your need for the exemption permit end before the end of the time for which it was granted, you will be refunded the parking fees paid for unused full months.
You can pay the fees by bank transfer (see "Zahlungsinformation" (payment information) in the decision).
Alternatively, you can pay the fees in cash or by bank card at the Municipal District Office for the 3rd district (Karl-Borromäus-Platz 3).
The parking permit is only activated after receipt of payment (duration 2 to 4 working days).
For any questions regarding payment, please contact the competent accounting department (Buchhaltungsabteilung 40) (German) of Municipal Department 6 - Accounting Services, Duties and Charges.
Processing time
The duration of the process depends predominantly on whether you have submitted all required documents in full and on time.

Further information
You must notify the department of any changes (e.g. if you change your vehicle registration number). Failure to notify the department of changes will invalidate the exemption permit.
If you no longer meet the requirements for the exemption, if you do not follow the stipulations of the decision or if you use the exemption for a purpose other than the one it was granted for, your exemption permit will be rescinded and the parking permit will be deactivated.
In shopping streets (German) located in area-wide short-term parking zones you may park for 1.5 hours with a properly set parking disc behind the windshield.

Please note: You can help reduce the workload of the authorities considerably by submitting your documents by e-mail or fax and stating the case number ("Geschäftszahl" or "GZ").
As a voluntary service, the Vienna City Administration notifies holders of exemption permits about 3 months before their expiry by sending an information letter with payment information. If you still meet the requirements, you can apply for a new exemption by paying the fee indicated in the letter. However, this is only possible if your circumstances have remained the same.
