Discharge of industrial wastewater into the public sewer system - notification
General information
The 1998 Ordinance on Indirect Dischargers (Indirekteinleiterverordnung - IEV) stipulates that the sewer authority must be notified of any wastewater whose composition differs more than marginally from that of domestic wastewater and that is to be discharged into another party’s sewer system that complies with water law (indirect discharge) before the start of said discharge. Businesses who discharge such wastewater must submit regular notifications depending on its type and volume.

Documents required
Indirect dischargers can notify Wien Kanal about the planned discharge of wastewater by completing the appropriate form. Attached to the notification must be a site plan of the building’s sewer system, which can generally be found in the reference documentation for the building. The location from where samples will be taken must be defined; e.g. the last sewer access point before the property border (by analogy).
Fees
The fee for the discharge of industrial wastewater is based on the current sewer fee.
For any questions regarding payment, please contact the competent accounting department (Buchhaltungsabteilung 40) (German) of Municipal Department 6 - Accounting Services, Duties and Charges.

Further information
Businesses must inform the sewer authority of planned indirect discharge in writing of their own accord prior to its start. Wastewater may not be discharged without the sewer authority’s permission. A notification is also required if indirect discharge requires a water law permit.
