Ljubljana is currently planning construction projects that will have an impact on the city's traffic planning. The expert exchange therefore focused on different solutions for communicating with the public and planning the different phases of implementation. The newly acquired knowledge was presented at the expert workshop on 29 January 2025 in Ljubljana.

Vienna as a role model for innovative street design

On 23 January, the Slovenian delegation started with the tour of the exemplarily improved public spaces Argentinierstraße and Neuer Markt. The streets are barrier-free, with generous crossings, wide pavements and many new green spaces.

Expert presentations afterwards covered the Austria's 2030 Mobility Master Plan and the cooperation within Interreg-project "Active to Public Transport" in the Danube region. The background to transport planning and street redesign was also presented, with examples of best practice for pedestrians and cyclist.

Liveable neighbourhood in Vienna: "Supergrätzl Favoriten"

The second day focused on the neighbourhood "Supergrätzl Favoriten". The participants learnt how the project is embedded in the strategic framework of urban planning. The Slovenian delegation was particularly interested in the public participation events that took place during the pilot phase of the project. Unexpected challenges in redesigning blocs of flats and residents' feedback on the parking situation were also discussed.
