Securing evidence in the public sewer - order
General information
Construction work close to a public sewer may cause damage (e.g., through load transfer from construction cranes, foundation work and temporary pit support systems next to the sewer, foundation anchorage, considerable groundwater lowering, or similar measures).
Wien Kanal offers the following services:
- Securing evidence on the state of the public sewer in locations potentially impacted by the weight of construction cranes, temporary pit support systems, anchorage or other measures that could potentially threaten the security of public sewers.
- Securing evidence on the state of the public sewer in the event that superstructures are built on top of sewers or installation conduits (only possible in special cases) A definitive and precise feasibility study and regulation of the implementation of such a project can only be made in the context of a project-specific lease. Only Wien Kanal may secure evidence in public sewers.
- If the sewer cross section is below 90/135 cm, a camera is used. The video will be provided in digital form.
- For sewers with a cross section of 90/135 cm and above, evidence is secured by site inspection. Any faults and damages are documented with photographs. The participation of the person applying for a building permit or their contractors is possible after a safety briefing and is advisable for the sake of proof.

Requirements
- Signed order form and legal billing address
- The application for a house sewer connection including all technical documentation must already have been filed with Wien Kanal; alternatively, a general agreement on the connections planned must have been made at minimum.
- Should a lease be necessary for a potential superstructure, there must be a general agreement on the type of superstructure and relevant factors (distances, safeguarding measures, etc.).
Deadlines
The application for a house sewer connection including all technical documentation must be filed in good time before the start of construction work.
There must be time to document the state of the sewer before construction starts. Should it not be possible to document the state of the sewer prior to the start of construction work due to a lack of application for a house sewer connection or order to secure evidence or any other reason that is within the client’s control, any damage and necessary repairs in the sewer system detected after start of construction will be charged to the applicant.
Depending on the type of construction project and the potential risk, Wien Kanal can require that an additional inspection be made to secure evidence during the construction (e.g. after the installation of anchorage systems, the completion of groundwater lowering measures, or the completion of the foundation and cover in the event that a superstructure has been agreed upon). Should this be the case, the order for an inspection to secure evidence must be submitted in a timely manner. The applicant must also order the final inspection to secure evidence after completion of the construction project in a timely manner.
