Recognition of professional qualifications in Alpine and cross-country skiing - application
General information
In order to be authorized to teach winter sports in Vienna, the following criteria have to be met.

Requirements
- Successful completion of a relevant training course or seminar
- Proof that a meeting place suitable in terms of location and size and a suitable skiing area are available in order to guarantee proper skiing instruction
- Recognition of exams and qualifications obtained in a member state of the Agreement on the European Economic Area (see Act on Winter Sports Instruction (Gesetz über die Unterweisung in Wintersportarten) § 21 sections 1 to 4)
Deadline
The competent authority will decide without delay and in any event no later than four months after having received the applicant’s complete documents.

Further information
Special provisions for EU citizens (excluding Austrians): A license to teach is acquired upon completion of the following instructor training courses:
- State-certified ski instructor (Diplomschilehrer)- authorization to teach skiing or other disciplines for which special training was completed
- State-certified snowboard instructor (Diplomsnowboardlehrer) - authorization to teach snowboarding or other disciplines for which special training was completed
- Ski guide – authorization to guide Alpine tours
- Snowboard guide – authorization to guide Alpine tours
- Ski instructor Levels 2 and 3 (Landesschilehrer) - authorization to teach skiing
- Snowboard instructor Levels 2 and 3 (Landessnowboardlehrer) - authorization to teach snowboarding
- Cross-country ski instructor – authorization to teach cross-country skiing
- Alternative ski instructor – authorization to teach alternative skiing variants or other disciplines for which special training was completed
The instructor training courses described in § 10 para. 2 (5) to (8) of the Act on Winter Sports Instruction are composed of three stages: basic training course, exam preparation course and Alpine training course. Candidates who have successfully completed the basic training course are licensed to teach within the scope of such basic training.

Means of redress or appeal
An appeal is possible against rulings issued by an authority and shall be filed by the party within a 4 weeks term with the authority that issued the ruling of first instance (against rulings without investigation procedure within a two weeks term). The term starts with the receipt of the written copy of the ruling, in the case of oral pronouncement simultaneously with it.
The appeal shall indicate the ruling it contests, the authority that issued the ruling and contain a motion of appeal with the reasons. No more appeal is admissible if the party expressly waived the right of appeal after receipt or pronouncement of the ruling.
Each ruling contains instructions on the right to appeal and indicates the authority and the deadline for submission of such appeal.
