Permit for street performances - application

To apply for a permit valid in February 2025, you can register online in the new e-government app "Platzkartenverkauf online" between 1 and 15 January 2025. From 16 January 2025, following your registration, you can use the app to apply for a permit for February 2025.

If you want to busk in Vienna or hold similar free-of-charge performances in a street or other public place outdoors, such as a musical or dance performances, on a short-term basis and without using a stage or similar structure set up specifically for the performance, you will need a permit for certain locations.

The required permits can be obtained online via an e-government app called "Platzkartenverkauf online". You will need a City of Vienna account (Stadt Wien Konto) for your initial registration.

The fee for a busking permit is EUR 6.54 per month.

General information

Street performances are free-of-charge outdoor performances held in a public place outdoors, on a short-term basis and without a stage or similar structure set up specifically for the performance. They include

• musical shows
• lectures
• dance and vaudeville performances
• pantomimes without stage-like equipment
• magical shows
• puppet shows and portrait drawing

As a street artist, you need to obtain a permit if you are planning to perform in one of the locations listed in Annex 1 of the 2025 City of Vienna Ordinance on Rules Applying to Street Performances Anlage I der Straßenkunstverordnung 2025 (German) .

The permit is valid for a specific month and contains the time slots and locations for which you have applied. The term "acoustic street art" refers to all performances involving sound. Acoustic street art may only be performed in the locations listed in Annex I/a (with a permit) and Annex II (without a permit) of the Straßenkunstverordnung 2025 (German) Ordinance on Rules Applying to Street Performances.

Requirements

• Street art performers must be at least 16 years old.
• Brass instruments and saxophones may only be played using mutes.
• Drums, loud or high-pitched woodwind instruments, and amplifier systems must not be used in outdoor street performances. Amplifier systems include speakers, amplifiers and other devices designed to amplify sound.
• The identity of the street artist or artists must be clearly recognisable during the performance.
• Performances must not involve live animals, open fire, pyrotechnic equipment, laser technology or weapons.
• The performance must not result in littering or contamination of the public place.

Deadlines

Time slots for performances can be booked from the 1st to the 27th day of the month preceding the time slot itself.

For example, if you want perform in June, you must submit the required application between 1 and 27 May.

Mondays to Wednesdays from 8 am to 12 noon, Thursdays from 8 am to 5 pm. Fridays from 8 am to 12 noon. Opening hours on Good Friday, 24 and 31 December from 8 am to 12 noon; closed on public holidays.

You can apply for a buking permit online via the application "Platzkartenverkauf online".

For the initial registration, you will need a City of Vienna account ("Stadt Wien Konto").

You need a photo ID for your initial registration.

Fees

The monthly fee for a permit is EUR 6.54.

Further information
