Supervision of on-street parking
Parking areas in Vienna are supervised by the supervision of on-street parking unit (Parkraumüberwachungsgruppe) of the Vienna provincial police directorate (Landespolizeidirektion Wien). There are different types of parking tickets depending on the kind and seriousness of the offence committed. You will either get a regular parking ticket (Organstrafverfügung) - colloquially called a “Strafzettel” in Austria, a notification of offence (Anzeige), an anonymous order (Anonymverfügung), or a provisional penal order (Strafverfügung). In some cases your vehicle is towed.
Parking ticket (Strafzettel) or notification of offence (Anzeige)
You will find a list of offences (pursuant to the road traffic regulations) on the back of your parking ticket to help you understand what type of offence you have committed. On the front you will find explanations concerning the law governing parking fees. Contact addresses and telephone numbers for complaints are listed there as well.
The Vienna provincial police directorate (Landespolizeidirektion Wien) is the competent authority for parking tickets. You will find their contact details on your parking ticket:
