Municipal Department 57 - Vienna Women's Affairs (MA 57)

• runs a "24-Hour Women’s Emergency Helpline" to provide women and girls who have become victims of violence with immediate help 24 hours a day,
• finances the Association of Vienna Women’s Shelters, which offers women affected by violence and their children a safe refuge in four women’s shelters and nearly 50 aftercare flats and provides them with adequate support,
• promotes associations and projects which provide problem and target-group-specific counselling, support and information to girls and women living in Vienna,
• develops science-based, women-specific principles and builds on these principles to initiate pilot and model projects in Vienna,
• provides advice and training regarding women-specific issues and projects to institutions and departments within the City Administration,
• actively participates in working groups and networks at municipal, national and international level in order to introduce women’s and women-specific expert knowledge to as many areas of life and work as possible,
• examines draft legislation with a view to its women and gender-specific effects,
• cooperates with Vienna’s City Councillor for Women’s Issues to present concerns, contents and achievements of Vienna’s women’s policy to the public and the media.
