The renowned international trade fair brought together around 220 exhibitors and 11,000 participants from 60 countries, who presented their innovations and visions for the future of public transport and sustainable mobility. Alexandra Reinagl, Managing Director of Wiener Linien, and Josef Taucher, Chairman of the Social Democratic Party in the Vienna City Council, presented Vienna's successful approach to sustainable mobility and public transport in Strasbourg. At the joint stand of the City of Vienna, Wiener Linien and UIV Urban Innovation Vienna, the City of Vienna's climate and innovation agency, visitors were able to find out about the city's sustainable mobility solutions and learn about future projects.

Best practice example Vienna

The fact that Vienna is internationally recognised as a best-practice example of sustainable mobility is due to the city's impressive modal split result. According to this mobility survey, over three quarters of people in Vienna make their daily journeys in a climate-friendly way by public transport, bicycle or on foot. Since 2015, there have been more annual season tickets each year than registered cars in Vienna, and the millionth annual season ticket was issued just recently. This high level of use shows the trust the Viennese have in the dense and efficient public transport system.

Alexandra Reinagl, Managing Director of Wiener Linien: "We are very proud to be able to present Vienna's public transport system on an international stage as guest of honour and to learn from each other. Vienna impresses with an affordable, reliable and growing public transport service that provides the right solution for every mobility need in combination with the complementary sharing services offered by WienMobil. Public transport expansion and modernisation are not only milestones for Vienna, but also examples of best practice for other cities that want to move towards greener and more sustainable mobility."

With the consistent promotion of public transport and the expansion of environmentally friendly technologies, Vienna is setting standards in terms of sustainable mobility and quality of life. Josef Taucher, Chairman of the Social Democratic Party in the Vienna City Council: "The fact that Vienna has been considered the most liveable city in the world for many years is largely due to its excellent public transport services. The City of Vienna is clearly committed to sustainable mobility, the modernisation of infrastructure and the further expansion of public transport. Our vision is not only to protect the climate and the environment, but also to make public spaces more liveable. Sustainable mobility is the key to successful and future-oriented urban development."

Interest in Vienna's know how

Strasbourg, the host city of the European Mobility Expo, is also focusing on the expansion of sustainable forms of mobility in the interests of climate protection, as Mayor Jeanne Barseghian emphasised at the opening of the Expo: "In recent years, our focus has been on expanding the infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians; now we are concentrating on expanding public transport. I am therefore particularly looking forward to exchanging experiences with the representatives from Vienna!"
