Free vaccinations for children and young people in Vienna
The Austrian child vaccination programme offers free vaccinations for children and young people up to 15 years of age.
There are some exceptions:
- The measles-mumps-rubella vaccination is free of charge for all age groups including adults.
- The vaccination against poliomyelitis is free of charge if administered as a single vaccination before the 21st birthday and only if administered in one of the vaccination centres of the Public Health Services (Impfstellen des Gesundheitsdienstes).
- The vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) is free of charge for children and young people from 9 to 30 years of age.
- The vaccination against influenza (flu) is free of charge for children and young people up to 18 years of age. From autumn/winter 2024, the vaccination against influenza (flu) will be free of charge for all persons.
The Austrian Federal Ministry of Health, the federal provinces and the social insurance agencies jointly finance the costs of these vaccinations.
Vaccination series that have been started can be completed up to the 15th birthday, except vaccinations that are only free of charge for certain age groups.

Free vaccinations for children up to 6 years of age
- Vaccination against rotavirus: 2 or 3 vaccinations from 7 weeks of age
The vaccination series must be concluded by 6 months of age. - Vaccination with a combined vaccine against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, haemophilus influenzae b, poliomyelitis and hepatitis B: 3 vaccinations from 3 months of age
- Vaccination against pneumococcal disease – for children up to 2 years of age and for children at particular risk up to 5 years of age: 3 vaccinations from 3 months of age
- Vaccination with a combined vaccine against measles, mumps and rubella 2 vaccinations from 10 months of age
- Vaccination against influenza (flu): annual vaccination
- Vaccination against COVID-19 with an adapted vaccine: recommended from 6 months of age
Where can I get these free vaccinations?
- At doctor’s surgeries participating in the child vaccination programme
- At the vaccination centre Impfservice Town Town (for children from 1 year of age)
- At the parents’ advice centres (Eltern-Beratungsstellen) of the City of Vienna’s Child and Youth Welfare Service (MA 11)
- At the children’s outpatient clinic (Kinder Ambulanz) of the Floridsdorf health centre (Gesundheitszentrum Wien Floridsdorf) operated by the Austrian health insurance agency Österreichische Gesundheitskasse (ÖGK)
Free vaccinations for children and young people from 6 to 15 years of age
- Vaccination against hepatitis B: booster vaccination
- Vaccination with a combined vaccine against measles, mumps and rubella: catch-up vaccination for those who did not receive 2 vaccinations as an infant
- Vaccination with a combined vaccine against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus and poliomyelitis: booster vaccination
- Vaccination against meningococcal groups A, C, W135, Y: one vaccination between 10 and 13 years of age. Alternatively, the school doctor can administer the vaccination to children in grade 6 as part of the school age immunisation service.
- Vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV): The HPV9 vaccination forms part of the free vaccination programme in Austria for persons from 9 to 30 years of age. Two doses are required for full vaccination. For persons from 15 to 30 years of age, an off-label vaccine use in the form of a two-dose vaccination is recommended in the Austrian Vaccination Schedule (Impfplan Österreich).

- Vaccination against COVID-19 with an adapted vaccine: recommended from 6 months of age

- Dates for vaccination appointments are set together with the head teacher of the school.
- Parents and legal guardians receive written information about school vaccination appointments in good time.
- At the children’s outpatient clinic (Kinder Ambulanz) of the Floridsdorf health centre (Gesundheitszentrum Wien Floridsdorf) operated by the Austrian health insurance agency Österreichische Gesundheitskasse (ÖGK)
